“Heart Mountain” makes world premiere at Santa Monica College
“Heart Mountain” premieres tonight at Santa Monica College and promises to take audience members on a journey of physical struggle, patriotism and cultural identity . Set in 1942, Heart Mountain-named after an internment camp set up in Northern Wyoming for Japanese and Japanese American citizens, uses the extreme dancing movements inspired by Ankoku Butoh as it retells the story of a Japanese family and how they overcame the vicissitudes of war and racism.
Written by award winning playwright, G. Bruce Smith, Heart Mountain is scheduled for November 2-11 at the Santa Monica Theatre Studio located at 1900 Pico Boulevard in Santa Monica. Showtimes are Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m with an additional 2 p.m. matinee on Saturday, Nov. 10.
