PASADENA, CA (June 2, 2013) – The Pasadena Playhouse (Sheldon Epps, Artistic Director and Elizabeth Doran, Executive Director) in association with David Shor Productions, presents tonight’s opening night performance of SLEEPLESS IN SEATTLE – THE MUSICAL. This world premiere presentation will play through June 23, 2013, at The Pasadena Playhouse.
“It is with much pride and joy that we reach this evening’s performance – an incredible journey, that encountered a few detours, but proved to be well worth the drive,” said Director and Playhouse Artistic Director Sheldon Epps. “This extremely talented company has brought the heart and humor of this touching story that has endured the test of time to a tuneful new life for our audiences to rediscover.”
“We have assembled a truly amazing company and I am extremely pleased with the results of the decision to put my show into the hands of The Pasadena Playhouse as our developmental partner,” stated producer David Shor. “This premiere, under the direction of Sheldon Epps, is the end of a process that began seven years ago and the beginning of another. I have my seatbelt fastened as our show begins its world premiere run in Pasadena and then moves on to its next destination in what I know will be an amazing ride.”
SLEEPLESS IN SEATTLE – THE MUSICAL centers around Sam, a widower and single father. When Sam’s son, Jonah, calls into a talk radio program looking for a new mother, Sam ends up getting on the phone and laments about his lost love. Thousands of miles away in Baltimore, Annie hears the program and immediately falls in love with Sam, despite the fact that she has never met him and that she is engaged to another man. Believing they are meant to be together, Annie sets out for Seattle to meet Sam, who, meanwhile, contends with an onslaught of letters from available women equally touched by his phone call.
